The Indiana University Northwest office of Diversity, Equity, and Multicultural Affairs is sponsoring a Pride month discussion about legislation regarding LGBTQ+ rights, according to the IUN website.

From 1 to 2:30 p.m. June 29 via Zoom a discussion of local and national LGBTQ+ legislation being discussed and its implications for our shared communities is planned.

A 2022 Valparaiso University graduate has been selected as a 2023 Fulbright Scholar, according to a release. Kate Eisenhutt will have the opportunity to live in Germany while teaching and furthering her career aspirations.

“It’s one more step towards doing good in other communities and one more step towards what I want to do later on in life,” Eisenhutt said.

A German and music composition double-major, Eisenhutt will serve in Saxony, Germany.

Recipients of Fulbright awards are selected on the basis of academic and professional achievement as well as a record of service and leadership in their respective fields, a release said.

Based in Hammond, A Helper’s Heart Home Care is a non-medical home care agency serving the elder community. The agency, founded by Lesley Miller, caters to those who want to remain at home by assisting them with their activities of daily living such as meal preparation, light housekeeping and personal care such as bathing, grooming and/or dressing, the release said.

The Portage Police Department is calling for applicants.

All applicants must pass a written examination, physical standards test, medical examination, drug screening and psychological examination among other requirements including successful completion of basic instruction at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, a release said.

The 2023 salary for a probationary officer without experience is $55,629.15, the release said.

From June 26 through July 2, Strack and Van Til Supermarkets will raise funds for the Multi Agency Academic Cooperative (MAAC) Foundation with a Checkout Challenge fundraiser.

Located in Northwest Indiana, the MAAC Foundation is a training facility dedicated to first responders, a release said. As a nonprofit organization, MAAC provides access to training for firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel and K9 officers.

To participate, shoppers at all 23 Strack and Van Til locations are invited to round up their change at checkout, the release said. This fundraiser begins June 26 and runs through July 2.
