Biden lays out $42 billion plan to make highspeed broadband universal by 2023
President Biden presented his administration’s plan to shell out funds to make highspeed broadband universal by 2023. The $42 billion Broadband Equity Access and Deployment Program will spread out funding approved under the $1 trillion 2021 infrastructure law the White House got passed with bipartisan support.
The two most populous states, Texas and California, will get the biggest amounts but less populous states like Alabama, Louisiana and Virginia came in the top ten of beneficiaries. No state will get less than $107 million to beef up connectivity to the internet.
“It’s the biggest investment in high-speed internet ever. Because for today’s economy to work for everyone, internet access is just as important as electricity, or water, or other basic services,” Biden told the press at a White House address on Monday.
