ALL RIGHT, GUYS, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I MEAN, WE’RE STANDING OUTSIDE OF ONE OF THE MANY BUSINESSES ACROSS VERMONT AND REALLY HERE IN LONDONDERRY THAT HAVE BEEN SO IMPACTED BY THE FLOODWATERS. LET ME TAKE YOU INSIDE TO JELLIES DELI HERE AND YOU CAN SEE WHAT THE WATER HAS DONE TO THIS STORE. I MEAN, EVERYTHING IS CAKED IN MUD HERE. MUD AS FAR AS THE EYE CAN SEE. YOU’VE GOT A TON OF LIQUOR OVER THERE. THAT’S A COMPLETE LOSS. LOOK AT THIS RIGHT HERE. YOU SEE THIS LINE RIGHT ABOVE THESE LIGHT SWITCHES? THAT’S HOW HIGH THE WATER CAME UP. OKAY. SO THAT’S ABOUT CHEST HIGH WITH ME. COME AROUND THIS WAY. MARK, I WANT TO SHOW YOU WHAT’S GOING ON BACK HERE TO YOU CAN SEE MUD STILL ALL OVER THE FLOOR IN HERE, THE DELI BACK HERE, THE COFFEE MAKERS, EVERYTHING JUST LEFT, CAKED IN MUD AND ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED. I CAN TELL YOU THE TOLL ON JUST BUSINESSES AROUND HERE IS IS INSURMOUNTABLE IN SOME CASES. BUT THE TOLL ON THE PSYCHE OF THE PEOPLE WHO OWN THOSE BUSINESSES, I CAN’T TELL YOU THAT STORY. SO I’M GOING TO LET BEVERLY AND SUSAN TELL IT FOR YOU INSTEAD. AND THE WATER CAME UP SO QUICKLY THAT WITH WITHIN AN HOUR OF US BEING HERE, WE HAD TO EVACUATE. WE NO SOONER GOT OUT OF TOWN. AND IT WAS IT WAS COMING IN AND COMING FAST. THIS IS MY THIRD FLOOD HERE, THE SEVEN IN THE 70S, LATE 70S. I WENT THROUGH ONE WITH MY CHILDREN WERE SMALL AND AND THEN WE WENT THROUGH IRENE. I DON’T BELIEVE THERE’S A DARN THING IN THERE. I CAN SAY NOTHING. I’M 80 YEARS OLD AND ENOUGH’S ENOUGH. BUT THIS IS PRETTY MUCH WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE. AND SEEING ON THE WALL THERE. AND YOU CAN SEE, OH MY GOODNESS, LOOK AT THAT. SO THE WATER CAME RIGHT UP TO YOU. SEE THAT LINE WHERE THE LIGHT SWITCHES ARE? WHAT DOES THIS STORE MEAN TO YOU? OH, IT MEANS A LOT. YEAH. WE WORK VERY HARD WITH ME TO BUILD THIS STORE UP. YEAH. SO WE’LL GET IT BACK AGAIN. WE WILL. A LOT OF THE COMMUNITY, A LOT OF THE EMPLOYEES, KAITLYN, SHE’S AN EMPLOYEE HERE. IT’S. IT’S A SARAH AND FRANK AND DOING A LOT JOHNSON TO HELP US OUT DEREK ADAMS YEAH MY DAUGHTER AND GRANDKIDS WERE HERE EARLIER JUST PICKING UP ROTTEN CARDBOARD AND THROWING IT IN THE DUMPSTER. SO LOTS OF PEOPLE. WHAT DOES THIS COMMUNITY MEAN TO YOU? A LOT. YOU KNOW, IT’S YOU KNOW, WE’VE ALL A LOT OF US HAVE ALL BEEN THROUGH THIS BEFORE. SO IT’S YOU KNOW, EVERYONE HELPS EACH OTHER. SO. YEAH. AND WHERE DO YOU GO FROM HERE? WELL, I LEAVE THAT UP TO MOM, BUT, I MEAN, I’M HOPING THAT WE’RE GOING TO GET IT BACK GOING AGAIN AND MAKE IT AS GOOD AS IT WAS. IF NOT BETTER THAN BEFORE. THEN GO AHEAD AND TAKE ONE. AND THIS IS THE AS YOU HEARD THE THIRD TIME THAT THIS STORE HAS BEEN AFFECTED BY FLOOD WATERS BACK IN THE 70S, BACK IN IRENE AND I’M TOLD THAT THIS ONE WAS EVEN WORSE. THIS IS THE UGLY SIDE, FRANKLY, OF THE FLOOD HERE. AND THERE’S A LOT OF UGLINESS TO SHARE. BUT AS I STEP OUT, I WANT TO BRING YOU OVER TO THE RIGHT HERE AND I WANT TO SHOW YOU THE BETTER SIDE OF WHAT THIS IS. THIS IS THE COMMUNITY THAT HAS COME OUT TO HELP BEVERLY AND SUSAN HELPED TO CLEAN UP THE STORE A LITTLE BIT. THIS IS JUST A FEW MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY HERE THAT HAVE COME OUT DESPITE THEIR OWN ISSUES WITH FLOODING, DESPITE THEIR OWN BUSINESSES HAVING ISSUES AND COMING OUT TO HELP. HERE AT JELLY’S DELI, WHICH HAS BEEN HERE FOR QUITE A LONG TIME, I’M TOLD THAT BEVERLY HAS OWNED IT FOR ABOUT THE PAST 30 YEARS AND SHE’S STILL GOT A SMILE ON HER FACE. RIGHT, BEVERLY? SO WE’RE LIVE IN L
